Starting Wednesday, August 6, 2025, students of the University of Ghana living off-campus can look forward to a smoother and more affordable commute to campus, thanks to a brand-new shuttle service launched by the UGSRC.
The initiative, spearheaded by the current SRC administration under the leadership of Guru-Jay Lit, is tailored specifically for students who stay in different parts of Accra and often struggle with the daily hustle of transportation to and from campus.
The shuttle will operate across three main routes, strategically selected to cover major student residential areas:
- Stream 1: Madina (Pick-up point – Old Melcom)
- Stream 2: Westlands, Haatso (Haatso Station), Wisconsin (Danfa Drive), and North Legon (Asead Hostel)
- Stream 3: UPSA Area (UPSA School), Trinity Avenue (Phelpo), Tse Addo Junction, and Dzorwulu (Ecobank)
In a move to keep things simple and secure, all payments for the shuttle will be done exclusively via Mobile Money—a fully cashless system aimed at student convenience and safety.
According to the UGSRC, this project is not just about transportation. It’s part of a broader commitment to solving the everyday challenges students face. “We recognize that getting to campus from off-site locations can be stressful and costly. This shuttle service is our way of easing that burden,” a representative of the council said.
The Off-Campus Shuttle Service is expected to cut down transportation costs, improve access to campus, and ensure students enjoy a more organized and safe commuting experience—especially those who live far from the university’s main premises.
As the academic year approaches, this timely intervention is already being welcomed by many as a step in the right direction.
